Models, Models, Models

There is also a creative way in crafting a rather well thought out solution for an existing the problem.

The third model brought to us this week was the ADDIE model. A great step by step process in garnering a solution.

.

ADDIE stands for Analyze, Design, Develop, Implement and Evaluate. This guide follows the steps of knowing what the nature of the problem is, then designing a possible solution and developing media that would help do so. Implementation of the design later follows and the overall process is also evaluated.

In addition to this week’s model, an exciting activity we did was the unconventional quiz bee, wherein we were tasked to create a question for the given answer. Fortunately our group won with 30 points overall.

Models Models

Teaching, like any other jobs is also a performance of skill, knowledge and application of techniques. It is also a step by step process of relaying information, gaining and sharing existing knowledge in the classes and evaluation.

For this weeks discussion, a new model was tackled, the ASSURE model.

This is step by step process wherein a teacher analyzes the learners first, the background, characteristics and even the similarities and differences of the students. Next is having the objectives figured out, satisfying the three domains, cognitive, affective and psychomotor. After comes the selection of media appropriate for the objectives and its proper utilization. Next is requiring the student’s participation, followed by the overall evaluation of the process.

This model is most useful in the creation of lesson plans and the like.

Models

As growing future teachers, one must know or possess skills and knowledge in conveying the lesson, mastery in his subject area and the correct choice of tools for doing so. With these as certain goals, models were created and could be used to represent the teacher’s skills and how to utilize media.

First of the two models introduced for this week was the TPACK. It is represented as the combination of the Technological, Pedagogical and Content knowledge a teacher possesses. These are shown to be circles that meet together and over time grow and become bigger as the teachers inquire new knowledge. Without even a single of these three circles existing or growing, a teacher is bound to experience difficulties.

All in all, the teacher must have the skills in operating and using technology, a great knowledge on the content and a wide array of techniques and strategies.

On another hand, in using media or technologies, a teacher could follow the acronym SAMR – Substitution, Augmentation, Modification and Redefinition.

These are helpful guides in order for the teacher to be as effective as he can be.

Experiential Learning

Learning differs between students. Their characteristics blend well with their mode of acquiring knowledge. These above all should be understood by teachers and used for the benefit of their learners and themselves.

Edgar Dale conceptualized the cone of experience that can be useful for the teacher in developing teaching techniques and appropriate media to use.

The cone is subdivided into a three-fold analysis namely iconic, symbolic and enactive. These experiences are put accordingly into tiers having the direct, purposeful experience as first and complex while the verbal and visual symbols as a simpler tier.

With the help of this cone of experience, the teachers and students would benefit more especially in learning.

As a future educator, I see it fit to use the direct and purposeful experience to garner a much desired outcome.

Lights, Camera, Action

After last weeks discussions and sharing of ideas regarding the cone of experience, the next task was to develop an accurate and fitting role play on a specific part of the cone, both in the perception of the student and the teacher.

I was assigned the number 1 and got along with my groupmates. Then we were given the first tier, the direct and purposeful experience, and trust me if I say we found it hard to conceptualize.

Our presentation revolved around the concept of the teacher introducing a new application and then asking one of his students to present the said application after, having the idea of it as a direct and purposeful experience.

Unfortunately, our presentation was more of a demonstration. Gladly, we listened to the point made by our teacher that it should have been a discussion revolving around the past experiences of the students themselves.

All in all, the role plays went well with all of us gaining new insights.

What App?

Applications come in a wide array of purposes for both vast and distinct audiences. An applicable app for any circumstance is not that hard to find anymore.

The week after we were asked to find an application which was related to our major, which is mathematics.

It was then like a show and tell of what application we had chosen to bring to class.

My personal favorite was the Logic Game which tested the reasoning skills of the player as well as the amazing graphics.

Soon after everyone finished showing and telling about their app, we were then asked to write five apps we would use and why.

The most striking lesson for that day was that applications as a tool for both educational and entertainment purposes are very applicable in the learning process.

Policies and Effectivity

Like every other system of living, technological uses must also abide to one unit of the society, the law.

On this week we were tasked to find policies from DepEd or CHEd that governs technological use and then we had the discussion of the found policies.

Trickiest question that day was what were our stands regarding technology use in the schools. This made me think also at the same time that it should be allowed but with certain limitations and boundaries from the institution and the teacher.

On another note, we also tackled the common use of technologies and even had an assessment on how can technology be effective.

Educational Technologies

Its when after a few sets of introduction come the specific subject topics a student should render important in his coming days.

The following week was where it started, the topic, Educational Technologies.

We talked about the concept and scopes of technology starting from the basics of technoly and thereafter discussing whether it is boon or bane.

The most striking of these discussiona for me was when we were asked to think of any technology and a realization came to me that technology has been existing for ages and that it is regarded as both boon ad bane.

Furthermore I am convinced that on my coming years of teaching, I should master technology use and integrate it in my teaching technique.

The Continuation

The start of the second semester is always like a mix of being in the middle and then having a fresh start.

For a first year student, this may have been where a few of them anxiety issues were long gone and the environment had grown within them.

Not so much for the subjects, for a new sem signals for new subjects. And with the introduction of the subject educational technologies, expectations and the like were acquired.

Though for most of the first week, we went through university rules and regulations and even had exciting activities. All for the benefit of refreshing ourselves of what to follow and how to become a proper citizen of the school community.
